For those unfamiliar with a messageboard, here's some help:
Messageboard Lingo-
Forum- the Messageboard itself or the different "Rooms" located at the messageboard, ie- Shout to the Lord Forums, Christian Fellowship Forum
Post- the message that someone has written
New Topic- starting a new topic
Reply- responding to a post
Thread- the topic in a forum (ie- the thread you are in is "Messageboard How-to's") that contain posts
Poll-a thread where people can vote on something
Signature- the custom-made table, verse, etc. that a person has at the bottom of their post. It can contain links to their website, messageboard, a scripture, a picture- whatever.
Link- an http address (url) that gets you to another place on the web. Usually looks like this- www.geocities.com/shout_2_the_lord or this
Shout to the Lord!
Emoticons- smilies that you can type in your post or on your thread topic. Example-
(made by : and lol)
HTML or EzCodes- if you are just learning, don't worry about these yet. There are lots of places on the web that will teach you when you're ready.
Preview- a box you can check before you post your message to check how it will look.
Stay in Topic- a box you can check if you want to stay in that topic after you post (otherwise you will go back to the list of topics/threads)
My Control Panel- where you can customize your preferences and profile
Mark Forum Read- this nifty feature allows you to know what you have read and shows you new posts. After reading all the new posts/threads in a forum, click on this button. All the new message icons will be gone. The next time someone posts there, you will only see the new posts.
New Message Icons- the little graphics that show up next to a thread when there is a new post. For example- in this forum, it is a smiley face. In Survivor, it is a kangaroo. On the front page...green quilt stars.
ROTFL- short for "rolling on the floor laughing"
LOL- short for "laughing out loud"
j/k- short for "just kidding"
HOW TO:
1) Register (it is not necessary, but you get some great stuff for being registered- like pictures, post rankings, etc) See the Register link for help.
2) On the first page of the forums you will see a list of Forums or Rooms. Go into "Introductions" to introduce yourself. First click on the "New Topic" button at the top. If you are registered, your name should already be in the box. If not, type in a name.
3) Type in a "Subject"...such as "Hi there" or "Greetings"..whatever you want.
4) If you want, pick a emoticon by clicking the circle next to the one you want.
5) Type your message in the box where it reads "Your Comment"
6) When you get more familiar with ezboard, you can use the posting options located underneath the comment box.
7) If you would like to "Stay in Topic" or "Preview", check those boxes BEFORE clicking on the ADD TOPIC button. You can also spell check your post before adding by clicking the SPELL CHECK button. Or if not, just click the ADD TOPIC button.
Your new topic/thread will now be added.
9) Now go read the other forums/Rooms
10) If you would like to reply to someone else..here's how-
In that thread that you are reading, click the "Reply" Button at the top. Follow the same steps as with a new thread/topic above.
11) Be aware that sometimes threads go for more than one page. If you don't see your post..check and make sure your on the last page.
12) If you would like to post a poll, click on the "Poll" button at the top. You will fill it in the same as a post, but you will also have the voting choices to type in.
13) To vote in a poll...just click on the choice you want to vote for. Ezboard will automatically tally your vote (and no one will know which one you voted for). You can only vote once in a poll.
14) Don't Forget!!! When you are done reading all the posts and threads/topics in a forum/room, click on the "MARK FORUM READ" link at the top (it's small, but you can find it). That way, when someone posts something new, you will know right where it is and where to go!
15) Don't be afraid. We all had to start somewhere. Messageboards are a great way to meet new people and fellowship. They are also a lot easier and slower than a chatroom. Go at your own pace and pretty soon, you'll be a pro!
If you have any questions about something I didn't cover that you want to know about, you can ask in the "Questions" forum or email me. I would be glad to help you and make your time here easy and enjoyable!!!
Remember- You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you!!!
